Mangalore: Cow Slaughter – Pejawar Swamiji Laments Lack of Political Will

“India can regain its lost glory, only if it takes steps to protect cows and the villages. The ‘Gau Grama Yatra’ being undertaken towards this objective, needs to be wholeheartedly supported by the Swamijis and the saints alike.  All the leaders, spiritual or otherwise, should commit themselves to achieve these objectives and organize public opinion in their favour. In history, there is a mention about the slaughter of cows and bullocks only during the times of the French rule. All out efforts need to be made to stop the unbridled cow slaughters that are taking place everywhere.  The main obstacle in achieving this goal is the lack of a strong political will. All the spiritual leaders should come together on a single day at the respective district headquarters and hold protest against this menace. Committees of cowherds and cow-protectors should be organized at the village level and youth should be attracted towards getting based in villages. Villages should be adopted to make them ‘Gau Gramas’. People also should support the movement in large numbers,” said Pejawar Mutt Swamiji, Sri Vishweshateertha.

He was addressing a convention of religious leaders held in the city on Thursday October 15, in support of the proposed country-wide programme of ‘Gau Grama Yatra’. After considering the facts presented, the convention adopted a unanimous resolution, supporting the cause of protecting the cows.

Subrahmanya mutt Sri Vidyaprasannateertha Swamiji, Balekudru Mutt Sri Narasimhashrama Swamiji, Odiyoor Gurudevanda Swamiji, Manila Sri Mohandas Swamiji, Vajradehi Mutt Rajashekharananda Swamiji, Uppala Kondevoor Temple Sri Yogananda Saraswati Swamiji, Polali Devaragudde Brahmananda Swamiji, Swami Muktipadanandaji of Ramakrishna Mutt here, Prasad Guruji of Siddha Samadhi Yoga and Bantwal Kapilananda Swamiji, who took part in the convention, extended suitable advice and guidance.

Reception committee president Ajitkumar Malady welcomed the spiritual heads who took part in the convention. Rashtreeya Swayamsevak Sangh Jyesthta Pracharak, Kru Narahari, delivered introductory address. Vishwa Hindu Parishat regional president M B Puranik conducted the programme. ‘Gau Grama Yatra’ regional convener, Vinay L Shetty, proposed vote of thanks.
